What to do in jasper

What to do in Jasper: The small business version

We think we might be one of the smallest businesses in Jasper.

Jasper is surrounded by big mountains — and by big companies that run big attractions. And that’s great. But to us, the real soul of Jasper lives in its community, in the local people who create experiences you won’t find anywhere else. Experiences with heart. With character. With a story.

Because small businesses are where that soul lives.

So here are our picks for fun things to do in Jasper — all created by small businesses and local people who truly love this place.

Jasper art gallery

If you’re looking for something inspiring to do in Jasper, we always recommend stopping by the Jasper Art Gallery.

It’s a small but vibrant space right in the heart of town, where local and regional artists share their work — from emerging creators to well-known names. The exhibitions change regularly, so there’s always something new to discover. They also host workshops and occasional live music, which makes it feel more like a community gathering place than a traditional gallery.

You’ll find beautiful landscape and abstract artworks, and if you want to take a piece of Jasper home with you, they sell prints, cards, and small handcrafted items too.

A perfect stop if you love art, creativity, and supporting local talent.

Jasper food tours

We love food. And Jasper has so much to offer. Jasper Food Tours takes you on a 3 hour walk through downtown Jasper and you will stop at 4 different restaurants. You get amazing food and drinks and you learn more about the time. Estelle is a long term local and a good friend of ours. Because this is a perfect activity for during the day we have a package with Jasper Food Tours! So day time is for food and drinks with the downtown walking tour and in the evening you come to our show! Because Jasper is more than just nature.

Warrior women

One experience in Jasper that truly stays with you is Warrior Women, led by Matricia — an Indigenous storyteller and knowledge keeper.

Gathered around the fire, Matricia shares stories of her history, her culture, and her deep connection to this land. It’s not just a talk — it’s an intimate fireside gathering where you’re invited to listen, reflect, and feel the spirit of Jasper through Indigenous eyes.

If you want to understand this place beyond the mountains and postcards, this is a beautiful and meaningful way to do it. A powerful local experience created with heart and rooted in tradition.

What to do in the evening? 'From Jasper with love' of course

Ok ok... it is our own experience but we really think it is something special and unique in Jasper. Especially in the evening. All the activities in Jasper are during the day. So what to do in the evening in Jasper? Come to our show. A drink is included in the ticket, you get an hour of laughs, maybe a little tear and you learn more about Jasper in a fun way. Afterwards go the Legion and get a drink at our most local pub in Jasper! Fun night right?

Jasper Mystery Tours

One of our favourite ways to explore Jasper (and yes, we’re a little biased) is through our Jasper Mystery Tours.

We created this experience because we wanted a fun daytime activity that brings people together and shows downtown Jasper in a different way. You walk through town, solve puzzles, follow clues, and slowly uncover the mystery — somewhere between an escape room and a scavenger hunt.

It’s lighthearted, interactive, and a great way to spend a couple of hours with friends or family. And we love seeing people laugh, think, and discover corners of Jasper they’d normally walk right past.

If you’re looking for something playful and a bit out of the ordinary, this one has our heart.

Shopping

If you like shopping we have some local shops for you where you will find good quality products. These are our favourites if you need clothing, shoes or a gift for someone.

Gift shops:

- Friends of Jasper

Small gift shop in the heart of downtown with beautiful gifts. All the profit goes back into the park! This is a non for profit organization who does amazing things for Jasper National Park.

website: www.friendsofjasper.com

- Highground Jasper.

Locally owned and just a treat to walk in and wander around. But watch out... we are sure you will not come out empty handed ;-).

- Tekarra color.

Of course for all your photo needs, but they have amazing gifts as well. For 5 years they are an amazing partner and so helpful and just great! Definitely walk in at Tekarra Color.

- Ransom clothing

Warning! If you walk in, you will come out with some amazing new clothes. Silvie and her staff are always so supportive and helpful with other small businesses so we can not recommend them enough. Great shop, great staff, great products!

- Mountain Air

Another beautiful clothing store on Connaught drive. They have such amazing shirts for men by the way. A bit more expensive, but such cool designs.

Our favourite Hikes in Jasper

Old fort point

Looking for a family friendly activity? Old fort point is the perfect intermediate hike close to town. If you do the round trip it will take you 1.5 hour with one steep part in the middle. On top of the mountain you have a gorgeous view over the town and surrounded area. Highly recommend for a short hike with amazing views over Jasper National Park. Especially interesting after the fire, you will walk through burned forest and you see how nature is recovering. Best 360 degrees view over the town and valley without paying money!

Difficulty: easy/moderate (some steep parts)

Time: 1.5 hours (loop)

Sulphur Skyline

One of our favourite here in Jasper National Park is Sulphur Skyline. The hike itself takes about 3.5/4 hours but it is so worth it. The 360 degrees view over the mountain range is one you will never forget. After the hike you can jump into the Miette hot springs, or go for dinner in town and come to the show as the perfect ending of your outdoorsy day exploring Jasper National Park. And please tell us how Sulphur Skyline was of course!

Bald hills

Ready for the real Jasper experience? This hike is very popular but it will take you to a gorgeous view over Maligne Lake. So worth it if you have your 'Malige Lake day' :-). It is quite a hike up (not as big as Opal hills but still a good work out) but you will pass different landscapes and at the top you eat your sandwich from Otto's cache (they have amazing sandwiches for hikes!). Change to see moose, deer, bears and sheep).

Difficulty: hard

Time: 3.5 hour

Hidden Valley

Hidden valley is a hidden gem. It is on your way to Hinton and it is a steep but short hike. But great views over the area where normally tourists don't go that much. As you can see, we love the not so crowded areas ;-). Definitely be ready for a work out but with gorgeous views over the Athabasca river and the eastern valley of Jasper it is all worth it!

Difficulty: hard (short hike)

Time: 1.5 hours

Wilcox pass

We love this hike. Especially when the wildflowers are blooming it is just GORGEOUS. It will be busy so parking can be a problem but if you find a parking spot get ready for gorgeous glacier views and bighorn sheep. You see the landscape changes with every step you take and at the end you will sit and soak up the views of more than 5 glaciers. That sounds good right?

Difficulty: medium/hard

Time: 3 hours

Other hikes

Other hikes which are definitely worth it:

- Lake Annette and Lake Edith (for just a nice easy stroll)

- Morro Peak (work out mode ON!)

- Maligne Canyon (At the moment it is only open from 6th till 5th bridge)

- Valley of the five lakes (When it opens up in 2026)

Our favourite restaurants in Jasper

The olive bistro

Local and amazing food and drinks. That is what the Olive Bistro is for us. After the show we like to pop in for some great food and drinks. Because it is only a 1 minute walk from our show at The Legion to the Olive bistro, it is the best spot for us to go. Even better, we have a great package with them as well. First you get a three course dinner at The Olive Bistro and afterwards you come to our show. See you this summer?

The Inn Grill

Staying at one of the hotels in Jasper on the east side of town and craving just some good food but nothing to fancy? The Inn Grill is your restaurant. We live very close to The Inn Grill so often we order some amazing pizza (get the cheese stuffed one!) or nice curry. They have something for everyone so perfect for families or if you just craving something that hits the spot.

The raven bistro

If there’s one place in Jasper where you’re likely to spot us on our days off, it’s Raven Bistro!

Raven serves outstanding Mediterranean-inspired food, creative cocktails, and always delivers top-notch service. But what makes it truly special is the heart behind it. Owners Ashley and Mike have supported local small businesses — including us — from day one, and that community spirit is something we deeply value.

A must-visit for a delicious night out in Jasper. Just don’t be surprised if we’re at the next table.

Otto's cache

New coffeeshop alert! This is Jasper's newest addition to great coffee and lunch AND they have a great market for the best products. We love it here as Europeans way too much ;-). Definitely take a sandwich with you on a hike or get some good cheeses for your cheeseboard later in the evening.
